Is the Bible Reliable?

Can we trust the Bible? A clear, gracious look at manuscript evidence, archaeology, and internal consistency — and why it points us to Jesus.

Few questions matter more than whether the Bible can be trusted. If it is reliable, its message about Jesus deserves our full attention. So let us look honestly at the evidence.

Manuscript evidence

The New Testament survives in thousands of early manuscripts — far more, and far earlier, than any other ancient document. Where copies differ, the variations are minor and well understood; no Christian teaching hangs on a disputed line.

Archaeology and history

Again and again, places, rulers, and customs named in Scripture have been confirmed by archaeology. The Bible reads like the work of people writing about real events in real places.

Internal consistency

Written across centuries by many authors, the Bible tells one unfolding story that culminates in Christ. As Jesus said, the Scriptures "are they which testify of Me" (John 5:39).

The Gospel

The Bible is not merely reliable history; it carries good news. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Its trustworthiness invites trust in the One it reveals.

You can examine the Bible with both honesty and hope. Read it for yourself, ask hard questions, and consider the Jesus it presents — He welcomes the seeker.
